General Information

On behalf of College Sport Wellington (CSW), the Wellington and Hutt Valley Orienteering Clubs co-ordinates schools orienteering in the greater Wellington Area. The principal event is the CSW Secondary Schools Series.

A secondary school competition is held on maps in and around the Wellington area in which individuals compete over a series of events. Competition is divided into three college age grades - Senior, Intermediate and Junior - and two different technical levels - Championship and Standard - to cater for students with different levels of orienteering experience.

For those wishing to compete outside the Wellington area, all secondary school students are also eligible to compete in the North Island Secondary School Championships and in the New Zealand Secondary School Championships which are held at mid-year. Results at the NZSS Champs, along with other events, will form the basis for the selection of a NZ Secondary Schools team to compete against Australian States in late September/early October.

CSW Orienteering Series

The CSW Orienteering Series is run in association with club events put on by Wellington Orienteering Club and Orienteering Hutt Valley. All events are held between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm on the day. Directions are given under the "Events" link on the WOC front page or can be found on Orienteering NZ website under ‘events’

Age grades and difficulty levels for the 2017 events will follow the standard for NZ Secondary School events.

National Events

The two main secondary school events outside the Wellington region are the North Island Secondary School Championships and the New Zealand Secondary School Championships. These are generally held in the Easter and mid-year breaks respectively. Both events have both an individual and a relay competition. Age grades and classes for the individual are as for the CSW Championships. The relay event has Senior, Intermediate and Junior age grades but does not have separate difficulty levels within these grades.
